Braun Series 8 8370cc Electric Shaver Review: How Efficient, Powerful, and Worth Buying is the Braun 8370cc Shaver?

Braun Series 8 is a completely new launched electric shaver line in the industry. Braun used a mixed pattern of appearance in the Series 8 from their typical high-end models like Series 9, Series 5, and Series 7. The Braun 8370cc is the first Series 8 model available on the US market. The shaver comes with some premium features that render the other highest-end models and even some better capacity than some Series 9 older models. Since a middle line of electric shavers between Series 9 and Series 7, it’s an expectation among the users and experts to fill the gap between those lines. Does the shaver really worth it? I’m explaining the Braun Series 8 8370cc in this article with its advantages and disadvantage from practical experience including guides. Read the full article to have a proper idea about the model before buying it.

That is why; a Series 8 shaver should come with enough attachments so we can compare it with the nearest shavers. However, I found the following items after unboxing the Braun Series 8 8370cc shaver.

  • The foil shaver itself
  • A cleaning and charging station
  • A travel pouch
  • Charging cord

  • A cleaning cartridge

Features and Specifications Analysis

Before judging the product’s built quality or experiencing the shaving performance, let’s analyze the product from every aspect of what the Braun 8370cc is offering and what mechanism has been used for.

Shaving Elements:

Braun 8370cc shaving elements

The Braun Series 8 shaver comes with a very similar shaver head to the older Series 7 shaver with 4 shaving elements. I described it here as Braun advertises, but there are really 3 cutting elements on the head. The head features 2 outer foils that are called Optifoils; and a specialized middle trimmer at the middle of the outer foils. The duty of the Optifoils is to cut the hairs from the skin level and the middle trimmer is to capture and pre-cut the longer and flat-lying hairs. There is a skin guard between an outer foil and the middle trimmer that protects the skin from much pressure and makes the shaving process secure from nicks and cuts. The shaving elements work all together to make the shaves smooth, efficient, and comfortable.

Flexibility:

Braun advertises the Braun 8370cc shaver comes with 8-D pivoting head where it can flex 8 directions. However, I found the shaving elements are flexible to move up and down independently to adapt to the skin and soften the shaving pressure while gliding. On the other hand, the head swivels left/right and up-down to make the shaving process easier while making the stroke even in tricky areas. In my experience, I realized a flexible shaving head is really good for comfortable shaves and makes the shaving period shorter by minimizing wrist work.

32bit MCU:

Braun first introduced 32 memory control units in their Series 8 shavers where the Braun 8370cc ought to come with superior power. Braun also used similar 32-bit chits in their new generation Series 9 93xx shavers.  Generally, the high-end electric shavers come with 8-bit processors even the older generation Series 9 shavers as well. However, a more powerful processor means capable of more data to process. Is the Braun 8370cc really such a powerful shaver what the processor means? There is no way to compare it with an 8-bit processed Series 8 shaver since there is no one. But If you compare it to an 8-bit Series 9 shaver that of Braun 9290cc, 9296cc; the Series 9 will win over the Braun 8370cc. Therefore I’m unsure what is the main impact of a powerful 32-bit processor over an 8-bit processor. But yes, the new 32-bit processor in the new Generation Series 9 shavers made a little more power over the older generations.

Autosense Technology:

Braun used an autosensing motor in the 8370cc shaver that can read beard density and adjusts the power according to the beard density. Braun used the same technology in their highest-end shaver line Series 9. It means you do not need to adjust the power manually as you have to do with the Series 7 shavers. However, the power adjustment of a shaver is not a much useful feature since you have to use the full highest power maximum time.

Sonic Technology:

The shaver comes with Synchro-sonic vibration technology which is really a glorious mechanism for electric shavers. The sonic vibration creates mild torques on the head that makes the gliding process very enjoyable. The technology also makes the manual cleaning process easier and shorter.

Head Lock Mechanism:

The Braun Series 8 8370cc comes with a typical Braun’s headlock switch that allows you to lock the head in different directions. The headlock system is really a useful feature to shave tricky areas since it comes with a flexible shaving head. I always praise Braun for their effective headlock technology that is very easy to use in this shaver. You just need to slide down the headlock switch to lock the head and slide up the switch to unlock the head.

100% Waterproof:

It’s a common thing to be washable for such kinds of premium shavers. In the same vein, the Braun Series 8 8370cc is 100% waterproof that allows you to clean the shaver manually with direct running water. For being 100% waterproof, the shaver allows you to shave under the shower while bathing.

Wet/dry Shaver:

The Braun 8370cc is a versatile shaver that is a good suit for both wet and dry shaves. Therefore you can have refreshing shaves with shaving cream, gel, foam, and water; and also have immediate dry shaves. Since a powerful shaver, the shaving power will not compromise with the foams to clear flawlessly and cut evenly.

Power Source:

It’s a cordless shaver that comes with an extended rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. As a result, the Braun Series 8 8370cc can provide 60 minutes of continuous cordless performance with a 1-hour full charge. It also offers an urgent shave with a 5-minute quick charge.

Indication Display:

Braun used an advanced LED display in this Series 8 shaver that is pretty similar to the older Series 9 shavers. The LED display shows the battery life, charging progress, replacement alert, and more. The LED display shows the actual value of the line to call Series 8. You know the Series 7 shavers come with a clumsy display that feels really cheap although the shavers cost more than the Series 8 shavers.

The Cleaning and Charging Unit:

Braun Series 8 automatic cleaning and charging center

Since a CC attributed model, the Braun 8370cc plays the same role as typical Braun models that comes with a cleaning center. The cleaning center cleans, charges, lubricates, and dries the shaver automatically. The unit looks like the typical Series 9; Series 5 shaver’s cleaning and charging units. However, you have to use and replace the cleaning cartridges to clean the shaver with the cleaning center hygienically.

Precision Trimming:

Braun Series 8 shavers come with a very similar precision trimmer technology to the Series 5 and Series 9 shavers. Braun used a straight slide-up trimmer in the 8370cc shaver that is used to shape sideburns, mustaches, and more.

Travel Lock:

The travel lock is another premium mechanism that I didn’t see in the Series 7’s older models like Braun 790cc, 7865cc, and 7880cc. The Braun Series 8 8370cc comes with a travel lock system that allows you to lock the power option from accidental turning on. To activate the travel lock, you have to press and hold the power button for 3-4 seconds to activate the travel lock and repeat the same procedure to deactivate the lock.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance of a shaver make the shaving results optimum and germ-free.

Since a CC model, the Braun Series 8 8370cc is very easy to clean automatically.

You just need to put the head into the dock and press the start button to start the cleaning process.

After pressing the start button, the dock will automatically select its cleaning program and hygienically clean, lubricate, and dry the head and make it ready for the next use.

Since the automatic cleaning process is costly for replaceable cleaning cartridges, sometimes you can clean the shaver manually with direct running water.

Braun described the cleaning process in detail with pictures in the user manual. Follow the instructions for risk-free manual cleaning.

Replacement Parts

Braun’s shavers are comparably better in this field where the foil blocks last longer than alternatives. Braun recommends replacing the foil cassette every after 18 months which is pretty much longer than alternative’s 12-month replacement. The manufacturer used the Braun 83M replacement head in the Braun Series 8 8370cc shaver which is pretty much available but pricier than Series 7’s one.

Another replacement item for the Braun 8370cc is the cleaning cartridge. You have to replace the cartridge after consuming the current one. Braun used an alcohol-based liquid solution in the cartridge to clean the shaver hygienically.

Pros

  • Comfortable shaving result.
  • Close shaves.
  • Powerful battery.
  • Wet/dry shaver.
  • Travel lock.
  • Flexible head.
  • Multi-precision headlock.
  • LED display.
  • Washable.
  • Cleaning and charging dock.
  • Good price range.
  • Precision trimmer.
  • Comparably affordable.

Cons

  • Built quality could be sturdier.
  • Replacements are comparably expensive.

Verdict

There is no noticeable limitation in the shaver and there are no simultaneous negatives found to the users. But I found the built quality is comparably a downgrade to the other premium shavers like Series 7 and Series 9. I think it’s a good solution for users who want to have the taste of a new Series 9 shaver and have a short budget. But definitely, it’s not an alternative or similar product to the Series 9 shavers. However, its shaving performance is adequate to choose as a regular shaver even if you have sensitive skin.

Can you charge the shaver without the cleaning center?

Yes, you can charge it without the cleaning center by the charging cord directly. See at the bottom of the shaver where there is the manual charging port.

Can you trim beards with the shaver?

You can detail and shape sideburns. But can not trim like a beard trimmer.
